Course Description:

Advocates do not feel comfortable when faced with the unique needs of individuals with disabilities. They lack knowledge of how a disability may impact the life experience and risk faced by individuals. This contributes to a lower standard of care for this underserved group. This training was developed and presented by WEAVE (Working to End Assault and Violence for Everyone), a collaboration of service providers in Kent County who specialize in serving people with disabilities through advocacy and sexual assault prevention. The presenters are staff from the YWCA of West Central Michigan, including advocates with lived experience as individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
