Course Description:

Improving communicative access for people with aphasia is imperative to improving clinical outcomes and quality of life for these patients and their families. Participants of this presentation will be able to define aphasia and how it may impact communication and compare the impact of ineffective vs. effective communication on healthcare outcomes. They will be able to identify and acknowledge a communication breakdown during a patient interaction, discuss effective techniques to support communication for patents with aphasia across the continuum of care, and explain available resources to help support communication in the medical setting.
