Course Description:
Oral hygiene is often overlooked in the inpatient population and considered a comfort intervention. There is evidence of a strong link between oral hygiene and healthcare acquired pneumonia. Implementation of an oral care program in the inpatient setting has the potential to improve patient mortality, morbidity, and quality of life as well as decrease healthcare costs, antibiotic use, and hospital readmissions.
