Course Description:

To educate professionals on how to address potential challenges that parents and caregivers have with following safe sleep guidelines and to learn techniques for having effective conversations with parents and caregivers about this issue. This course is an advanced training. Individuals taking this course should be knowledgeable of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommendations for a safe infant sleeping environment. The techniques that will be presented are intended for use in the context of an individual counseling interaction with a client or family, not in a group or classroom setting. The learner will need to use their professional judgement to decide how and when it is appropriate to use these techniques to have conversations about infant safe sleep with clients and families. The learner’s professional role and the length of time that they have to spend with the client will impact the conversation.
