Course Description:

Children with trauma histories have difficulty in all language domains but particularly in social pragmatic communication, which consists of interdependent relationships among social cognition, executive functions, emotional and sensory regulation, and pragmatics. The presenter will define trauma and explain its various causes, talk about the impact that trauma has on brain functioning, as well as its impact on language learning and social pragmatic communication. Trauma-Informed assessment and intervention practices from the perspective of speech, language, and hearing sciences will be introduced.
